FOR 2009 - 2010 SCHOOL YEAR

MIDDLE SCHOOL/HIGH SCHOOL POSITION

TITLE: GUIDANCE COUNSELOR (SECONDARY/MIDDLE SCHOOL)

QUALIFICATIONS: 1. A master's degree from an accredited college or university

with a major in guidance and counseling and course work in

psychology, testing and measurement, sociology and

education.

2. State of Michigan Professional Counselor License.

3. At least three years of successful counseling experience in a school setting preferred.

4. Teaching certification and experience preferred.

 

REPORTS TO: Building Principals

JOB GOAL: To help students overcome problems that impede learning and to assist

them in making educational, occupational, and life plans that hold promise for their personal fulfillment as mature and responsible men and women and to help them make occupational choices, post-secondary educational choices, and career evaluations that will lead them to meaningful, successful, and rewarding work.

PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES:

1. Registers students new to the school and orients them to school procedures and the school's varied opportunities for learning.

2. Aids students in course and subject selection.

3. Assists students in evaluating their aptitudes and abilities through the interpretation of individual standardized tests scores and other pertinent data, and works with students in evolving education and occupation plans in terms of such evaluation.

4. Remains readily available to students so as to provide counseling that will lead each student to increased personal growth, self-understanding and maturity.

5. Takes an active role in interpreting the school's objective to students, parents, and the community at large.

6. Supervises the preparation and processing of college, scholarship, and employment applications.

7. Maintains students' records, oversees portfolio management, and protects confidentiality.

8. Leads Student Support Team.

9. Works to prevent students form dropping out of school.

10. Arranges for tutors and summer school work.

11. Works with students on an individual basis in the solution of personal problems related to such problems as home and family relations, health, and emotional adjustments.

12. Ability to work collaboratively with students, staff, parents, and administration.

13. Provides in-service training in guidance for teachers.

14. Provides vocational guidance and information for students seeking a future other than college.

15. Meets with representatives of vocational schools and the military services to discuss their programs and requirements and arrange meetings with students.

16. Cooperates with business and industry on job references of former students.

17. Schedule the administration and individual interpretation of aptitude tests, MEAP, MME, PLAN, and any other assessments as assigned.

18. Prepares follow-up studies of former students for the purpose of improving services and evaluating the effectiveness of school program.

19. Maintains open communications and positive relationships with college admission officers, especially those representing schools in which the district students traditionally demonstrate the most interest.

20. Obtains and disseminates information about financial aid programs for college entrants.

21. Oversees the calculation of senior grade point averages and class rankings, and the processing of transcripts. Evaluates class standing and credits towards graduation before leaving in June.

22. Prepares and supervises the processing of evaluations, recommendations, and other forms as required in connection with college applications.

23. Attempts as much as possible to maintain a file of alumni, with their local addresses and the names of the colleges they attended together with their dates of graduation, for the purpose of arranging meetings, between them and students interested in attending those colleges.

24. Periodically distributes to parents a Counselor Newsletter or some other appropriate type of communication.

25. Performs any other delegated responsibilities as directed by the appropriate principal.

TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT: Salary and work year to be established by the

Board according to the HEA Contract.

OTHER SKILLS AND ABILITIES:

Ability to apply knowledge of current research and theory to instructional program; ability to plan and implement lessons based on division and school objectives and the needs and abilities of students to whom assigned. Ability to establish and maintain effective relationships with students, peers and parents; skill in oral and written communication.

LANGUAGE SKILLS:

Ability to read, analyze, and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, or governmental regulations. Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals. Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers, clients, customers, and the general public.

MATHEMATICAL SKILLS:

Ability to work with mathematical concepts such as probability and statistical inference, and fundamentals of plan and solid geometry and trigonometry. Ability to apply concepts such as fractions, percentages, ratios, and proportions to practical situations.

REASONING ABILITY:

Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.

SECONDARY (6-12) MATHEMATICS TEACHER

TITLE: SECONDARY (6-12) MATHEMATICS TEACHER

QUALIFICATIONS: 1. Valid Michigan Teaching Certificate

2. Previous experience desirable

3. Such alternatives to the above qualifications as the Board may find appropriate.

4. Certified in Secondary Mathematics (6-12 EX) required

5. Additional endorsements preferred

6. Highly Qualified Certification as required by NCLB in Mathematics

REPORTS TO: Building Principal(s)

JOB GOAL: To instruct students in a manner so all students achieve at or above grade level.

PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES:

1. Meets and instructs assigned classes in the locations and at the times designated.

2. Plans a program of study that meets the individual needs, interest and abilities of all students.

3. Creates a classroom environment that provides for student involvement in the learning process and enables each student to achieve learning objectives.

4. Implements by instruction and action the school's philosophy of education, instructional outcomes, and teaches district approved curriculum.

5. Guides the learning process towards the achievement of curriculum outcomes and establishes clear objectives for all lessons, units, and projects.

6. Documents student achievement as requested by building principal. Provides progress reports as required.

7. All teachers are required to have the lesson plans in writing, for at least one week in advance at all times. Written plans should be available for review and also readily accessible for a substitute teacher.

8. Plans for and utilizes instructional methods, resources and evaluation techniques which motivate and enable each student to achieve learning objectives.

9. Sets clear standards for classroom behavior.

10. Maintains control in the classroom essential for effective learning and teaching. Teachers should also assist in dealing with student behavior problems outside the confines of their classrooms.

11. Understands the student handbook and interprets the handbook for students.

12. Provides students, parents, and substitute teachers with written classroom guidelines and rules that are consistent with established district policy.

13. Assesses students on a regular basis and adjusts instruction based on student achievement.

14. Diagnoses the learning styles of individual students on a regular basis, seeking the assistance of district specialists as needed.

15. Follows up any special education referral with the data and information requested by the IEP Committee and works with the Special Education Instructor for the good of the student.

16. Will be available to students and parents for education-related purposes outside the instructional day.

17. Takes all necessary precautions to protect students, equipment, materials and facilities.

18. Maintains accurate, complete and correct records as required by law, district policy, and administrative directive.

19. Serves on committees when requested to do so and attends all faculty meetings.

20. Strives to maintain and improve professional competence.

TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT: As established by the Board of Education in

accordance with the HEA Contract.

EVALUATION: Performance of this job will be evaluated per HEA Contract.

Substitute Bus Drivers Needed

Must have a high school diploma or GED, and Commercial Drivers License (CDL). Employment subject to passing job related physical exam, drug/alcohol test and criminal background check.
