CUSTODIAL/MAINTENANCE POSITION
JOB CLASSIFICATION: Custodial/Maintenance Position 4 - 6 hours per day (hours may vary) Part Time Position Variable start and end time between the hours of 6:00 am - 12 midnight STARTING DATE: ASAP SPECIFIC QUALIFICATIONS: A minimum of a high school diploma or its equivalent is required. Ability to communicate clearly and concisely both in oral and written form. Must be responsible, dependable able to multi-task. Must be capable of enforcing obedience to rules while maintaining poise. Ability to perform duties with awareness of all district requirements and Board of Education policies. QUALIFICATIONS: 1. High school diploma or general education degree (GED) 2. Certification of good health signed by a licensed physician and a current back x-ray. 3. A Michigan Driver's License required. 4. Electrical, plumbing and carpenter knowledge and/or experience. 5. Ability to read operating instructions, and write reports. 6. Ability to operate custodial equipment, power tools and lawn equipment. 7. Ability to perform all cleaning and sanitation procedures.
REPORTS TO: Custodial/Maintenance Supervisor JOB GOAL: To provide students with a safe, attractive, comfortable, clean, and efficient environment in which to learn, play, and develop. PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES: 1. Assists in maintaining seasonal grounds work (snow, lawn). 2. Cleans and preserves designated spaces, equipment etc. in the buildings. 3. Assists visiting public utilizing the facilities with directions within building and in obtaining and setting up needed equipment. 4. Maintains building and grounds security in the building each school day. 5. Completes necessary painting and general repairs to plumbing, electrical, carpentry, and general mechanical areas. 6. Assists in remodeling and renovation work. 7. Repair or replace faucets, toilets, urinals, and water lines. 8. Requisitions for supplies and equipment plus provide data for usage and inventory. 9. Assumes responsibility for the general fire safety of school buildings. 10. Performs emergency repairs or cleaning services as necessary. 11. Performs cleaning requirements to district specifications and/or cleaning procedures. 12. Maintain the grounds and outdoor equipment. 13. Trouble shoot and repair maintenance concerns. 14. Operate all power and manual snow removal equipment. 15. Read, comprehend and perform all mathematical skills for material and supplies mixing. 16. Perform basic installation procedures for floor, wall and ceiling material. 17. Other responsibilities may be assigned. QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS: To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily on a daily basis. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required. TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT: As established by the Board of Education and in accordance with the HESPA Contract. EVALUATION: Performance of this position will be evaluated annually and in accordance with the H.E.S.P.A. Contract and Board of Education policy.
OTHER SKILLS AND ABILITIES: Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with students, staff and the community. Ability to perform duties with awareness of all district requirements and Board of Education policies. LANGUAGE SKILLS: Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals. Ability to write routine reports and correspondence. Ability to speak effectively before groups of customers or employees of organization. MATHEMATICAL SKILLS: Ability to add and subtract two digit numbers and to multiply and divide with 10's and 100's. Ability to perform these operations using units of American money and weight measurement, volume and distance. REASONING ABILITY: Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form. WRITTEN EXPLANATION: S/he must submit a written explanation of how applicant meets or exceeds qualification requirements. An employment written and performance test may be administered. PHYSICAL DEMANDS: The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. The employee continuously uses hand strength to grasp tools and climbs on to ladder or scaffold. The employee will frequently bend or twist at the neck and trunk more than the average person while performing the duties of this job. The employee must frequently lift and/or move up to (50) pounds such as cleaning supplies, pails, equipment and unloading trucks with supplies. Occasionally the employee will lift and/or move up to (90) pounds such as salt and bulk furniture. The employees will sometimes push/pull items such as tables, bleachers, and scrubbing machines. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.
WORK ENVIRONMENT: The work environment characteristics described here are representative of those an employee encounters while performing the essential functions of this job. While performing the duties of this job, the employee regularly works indoors and will occasionally work outdoors. The employee will work near or with moving mechanical equipment. The employee may occasionally work with toxic or caustic chemicals such as petroleum products, degreasers, and sprays. The employee must be able to meet deadlines with severe time constraints. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate but may be severe.
